The sixth South Asia Economic Summit kicked off today in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The three-day summit with the theme ‘Towards a stronger, dynamic and inclusive South Asia,’ was inaugurated by deputy minister of finance and planning of Sri Lanka Dr Sarath Amunugama.
Hosted by Institute of Policy Studies – an apex think tank of Sri Lanka – the summit will see eminent personalities from academia, government, civil society and private sector from the SAARC member countries.
“The summit has become an important platform for the South Asian researchers, academicians, businesspersons and government representatives,” SAARC secretary-general Ahmed Saleem, on the occasion.
“It has been helping exchange their opinions on issues having an impact on economic integration of the South Asia,” he said, adding that the last five summits have been instrumental in generating views and ideas for consideration of the policy makers in our region.
